Army L.S. & G.C., V.R. (Corpl H. Southgate. 49th Foot. 1846.), fitted with original suspension, edge bruising, otherwise very fine

Henry Southgate was born in 1805 in Denstone, Suffolk and attested for the 49th Foot at Bury St. Edmunds in 1824 after working as a labourer. He was not present in China for the First Opium War as he is recorded recruiting in Scotland from 1840 until 1843. Southgate was appointed Corporal in 1844 and received his L.S. & G.C. Medal in 1846 before being discharged the following year; sold together with copied research.
