Thomas Dowrick was born at Perranarworthal, Cornwall on 17 December 1831 and attested for the Royal Navy on 1 January 1873 with H.M.S. Basilisk. He served with a number of vessels notably H.M.S. Indus twice.

Carl Laxs was born at Finland in 1830 and attested on 1 January 1873. He served until June 1877 when he was invalided from service.

William James Port was born at Holborton, Ivybridge, Devon on 12 August 1869. He attested with H.M.S. Indus on 6 March 1888 and served until 1911 when he joined the Royal Fleet Reserve. Mobilised upon the outbreak of the Great War he saw wartime service with Suffolk and Cumberland (1914-15 Star, British War and Victory Medals).
