William Brown, a native of Swindon, won his M.M. whilst serving with "B" Battery, 286th Brigade, Royal Artillery during the Great War. His Brigade spent 1915 and 1916 training at various camps in the south of England, in Kent, Surrey and on Salisbury Plain. Their training was badly impeded by the lack of equipment. Training was completed by the end of 1916, they left to join the fighting in France in February 1917. The Brigade took part in the Defence of Armentieres, the Second Battle of Passchendaele, the Battle of the Lys in the German Spring Offensive, and the final push especially the Battle for Cambrai; sold together with copied research, cap badge and collar titles.
