(x) An O.St.J. group of seven awarded to Chief Stoker H. C. F. Bent, South African Naval Forces

The Order of St. John of Jerusalem, Officer's breast Badge, white metal and enamel; 1939-1945 Star; Burma Star, clasp, Pacific; War and Africa Service Medal 193-345, these last four all officially impressed '586113 H. C. F. Bent'; South African Service Medal (C. P. S. Bent H. C.); Service Medal of the Order of St John, with three further Award Bars (S.A.772 H. C. Bent 1958), the award bars with glue to reverse, very fine (7)

Henry Charles Frater Bent was born on 6 May 1926 and was a clerk before joining the South African Naval Forces on 1 May 1944. He first served at the Cape Town Detachment between 3 May and 23 June 1944 and he was seconded to the Royal Navy. He then briefly served on Afrikander from 24 June to 10 July 1944 and then on Assegai from 11 July until 20 August 1944, ahead of serving on Suffolk for a longer time between 21 August 1944 and 3 July 1945. During this time, Bent was reseconded to the South African Naval Forces on 31 August 1944 and then served on Lucia from 4 July to 3 October 1945 and finally briefly on Assegai from 5-31 October 1945. He was partially demobilised on 14 December 1945 and his Second World War medals were despatched to him on 17 July 1952.
