Broadsword and Coventry were stationed off the Falkland Sounds on 25 May 1982 when they came under attack by Argentine Skyhawks. The attackers were flying so low that attempts to lock onto them by the British Ships failed giving the Argentine aircraft an opening. They managed to land three hits on Coventry which sank her, Broadsword was on hand to lend assistance rescuing 170 of her crew from the disaster.
