A Great War 'trio' awarded to Corporal J. Beckinsale, wounded in action at Neuve Chapelle

Joseph Beckinsale was born in 1889 in Cote, Oxfordshire and attested with the 1st Royal Berkshire Regiment at Reading in 1909. He was posted to India with the 2nd Royal Berkshire Regiment in January 1911 and remained there until September 1914. Beckinsale disembarked at Le Havre with his unit that November as part of the 25th Brigade, 8th Division. In March 1915 at Neuve Chapelle, he suffered a gun shot wound to the abdomen while in the field and returned to England. In January 1916, Beckinsale joined the Machine Gun Infantry attached to the 25th Company and was made Lance Corporal a few months later. Beckinsale spent the majority of the Great War as a member of the British Expeditionary Force in France, and was promoted Corporal in October 1918 before returning to England in March 1919 for demobilisation. After the war he resided in Bishop Waltham, Hampshire with his wife and family and was finally discharged on 9 August 1922; sold together with a large quantity of comprehensive copied research.
