Frederick William Bendall was born in 1874 in Timsbury, Somersetshire and in 1895 enlisted at Bristol with the Corps of Hussars of the Line, being posted as Private to the 20th Hussars a few days later. Bendall was stationed in India from November 1897 until December 1901, where he extended his service to complete 12 years. He was in South Africa from December 1901 to March 1903, and was posted to Egypt from April 1903 until December 1904 before being discharged in 1907 after having served his 12 year engagement. Bendall returned to the Regiment in November 1914 following the outbreak of WWI, and at some point during the war transferred to the Royal Army Veterinary Corps; sold together with copied research.
