Joseph Percy Balson was born in 1878 in Poole, Dorset and enlisted with the British South Africa Police (Rhodesia) in 1901 and was discharged the following year. He married Florence Mary Keyton in Maidenhead at age 25 and later joined the Territorial Force Reserve in November 1914, gazetted as 2nd Lieutenant, became Adjutant of the Royal Defense Corps, and promoted Captain in May 1916. Balson was posted to France in July 1917 where he served as a Captain with the 4th Royal Berkshire Regiment, after the war he lived with Florence in Maidenhead until his death there on 17 January 1959; sold together with copied research.
