Bertrand Charles Temple Pottow was born at Maritzburg on 14 January 1881. He served with the Natal Carbineers during the Anglo-Boer War from 29 September 1899-41 May 1902 although doesn't appear on the roll for the King's South Africa medal. The Natal Carbineers were at the forefront of the South African response to the Bambatha Rebellion in 1906. Their role was largely to drive the Zulus into prepared defences and as such they were largely skirmishing across mountainous terrain. The Regiment did see action at the Battle of Mhome Gorge however, the decisive engagement in the uprising; sold together with copied research.
