The formation formed part of a punitive expedition against the Mohmand tribes who had recently raided the village of Shabkadar, not far from Peshawar. Marching from Peshewar to Lakarai, the Brigade arrived on 21 September at Lakarai, after elements of the Malakand Field Force where attacked en-route from their camp at Nowshera. They proceeded to undertake 'well-conducted operation' in the Jarobi and Koda Khel Valleys, earning the Punjab Frontier 1897-98.

He was later to serve in the Anglo-Boer War, attached to the 8th Mounted Infantry and appears to have been on the Staff of that unit in 1903. Joining the Army Reserve at some stage Morris was discharged in 1912; sold together with copied research.
