Henry Joseph Kellard was born at St. Giles, London and attested there on 11 March 1889 with the King's Royal Rifles. Posted to India in 1890 he saw service in the relief of Chitral there five years later before returning to Britain in 1897 where he joined the Army Reserve.
Returning to service two years later Kellard was posted to South Africa on 12 December 1899.
He joined the 1st Battalion after the relief of Ladysmith, likely as a replacement for the losses they suffered at Talana and during the siege. This formation continued to see heavy action during the conflict, Kellard returned to the Reserve in April 1902. He died at Brentwood Mental Hospital on 16 June 1945; sold together with copied service papers and medal rolls.
