William Triggs was born at Headley, Hampshire on 17 January 1846 and enlisted with the Royal Navy on 17 January 1864. Appointed Ship's Corporal Class II on 1 January 1873 with Crocodile he was advanced to Class I in 1875. Posted to the corvette, Active in 1877 Triggs was to see service in the Anglo-Zulu war with her. Going ashore after the war he was discharged on 21 December 1884; sold together with copied paperwork.
