Ross 93 Highlanders), privately engraved naming in upright capitals; Turkish Crimea 1855, British die, unnamed as issued, first with evidence of brooch mounting, possibly previously erased naming, clasps and suspension post attached with old adhesive on both, fair (2)

From information provided by the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders Regimental Museum, it appears these were awarded to No. 2686 W. Ross, a native of Morayshire who enlisted at Portsmouth in 1854. Having been wounded at the Alma, he remained at duty but appears to have deserted after Balaclava.
