(x) Queen's South Africa 1899-1902, 3 clasps, Relief of Ladysmith, Laing's Nek, Belfast (4129 Pte W. Ross. Gordon Highrs:), lightly toned, good very fine
William Ross was born at Islington, London and worked as a brushmaker prior to joining the Gordon Highlanders at Aberdeen on 8 February 1892, he had previously served in the 3rd Battalion Gordon Highlanders Militia. Ross served in the East Indies between 27 January 1993 and 7 December 1899 and earned an India General Service Medal 1895-1902 with 2 clasps for Punjab Frontier 1897-98 and Tirah 1897-98. He then served in South Africa from 8 December 1899 returning home on 9 September 1902. He returned to South Africa again on 18 March 1903 and was stationed there until his discharge on 7 February 1904.
