The Queen's South Africa Medal awarded to Private W. Taylor of the 19th Hussars, who died of wounds on 19 January 1900 at Ladysmith

Queen's South Africa 1899-1902, 1 clasp, Defence of Ladysmith (4116 Pte: W. Taylor. 19/Hrs.), good very fine

During the Boer attack at Ladysmith on 6 January 1900 the 19th Hussars defended Maiden's Farm, preventing the enemy from striking at Waggon Hill from the west, some of them were also present on the Hill itself. Taylor is confirmed on the roll as 'Died of Wounds received in action 19.1.1900'.
