Charles James Blackhall was born at Hackney, London and worked as a mason when he enlisted at London for the Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers in 1889. Posted to India he served there until January 1902 when he was transferred to South Africa for service in the Anglo-Boer War. Blackhall was discharged on 9 September 1902, he is entitled to a Queen's South Africa medal with South Africa 1902 clasp; sold together with copied research and service papers.
