China 1856-60, no clasp (F. E. Pirkis. R.N. H.M.S. Comus), engraved naming, small loop fitted to the centre of the riband bar, otherwise with light contact marks, almost very fine
Frederick Edward Pirkis was born on 12 July 1835 and served on Comus during the Second China War. Pirkis became an Assistant Clerk on 22 March 1856; Clerk on 16 June 1858; Assistant Paymaster 16 December 1870; Paymaster 16 December 1870; Fleet Paymaster 17 February 1886; and finally the Retired List on 9 April 1893. Pirkis became a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society, the Royal Microscopical Society, as well as Chairman of the National Canine Defence League. His address is recorded as Penlee, Richmond, Surrey. Pirkis died on 6 October 1910.
