Indian Mutiny 1857-59, 2 clasps, Lucknow, Relief of Lucknow (Corpl J. Pennington, 90th Lt. Infy.), slight edge bruising, very fine
John Pennington was a native of Chesterfield, Derby and worked as a joiner before enlisting at Sheffield on 18 June 1854 with the service number 4193. Posted as a Private to the 67th Foot on 8 June 1935 he transferred to the 90th (Perthshire) Light Infantry on 1 February 1836. Pennington's service lasted less than seven years, nearly two of which he spent in India. Promoted Corporal on 9 April 1857 he served throughout the Indian Mutiny seeing service in the Relief and second Defence of Lucknow. Not long after hostilities concluded Pennington was found to be suffering from dysentery and invalided from service as unfit on 30 April 1861.
