John Price was born in Coventry in 1831 and attested with the 14th Light Dragoons at age 14. He was present at the Battles of Chilianwala and Goojerat in Punjab in 1849, and was later promoted to Trumpeter in March 1850. Price served with the left wing of the Regiment in the 1st Brigade of the Central India Field Force from October 1857 until June 1858. They were engaged in action at numerous battles including Dhar, Mundesore, Chanderi, Betwa, Jhansi, Koonch, Gollowlie, Calpee and Gwalior. Price volunteered to the 8th Hussars in late 1859 and was promoted Trumpeter early in the new year. He was discharged at his own request on 29 April 1873, having served for nearly 28 years; sold together with copied research.
