The New Zealand Medal awarded to Private W. McGowen, 68th Light Infantry who was wounded in action in 1855 during the Crimean War

New Zealand 1845-66, the reverse dated 1854-1866 (3987 Wm. McGowen. 68th Lt Infty), light contact marks, very fine

William McGowan appears on the roll with the number 2987, he is the only man of this name on the roll. Enlisting with the 68th Light Infantry in 1852 he served in the Crimea, being wounded in the thigh on 4 September 1855. Serving after the Crimean War in India for almost six years he was then posted to New Zealand where he was to serve for a further 2 years and 5 months. McGowan was discharged at Cork in 1872 and is further entitled to the Crimea medal with four clasps, Turkish Crimea and an L.S. & G.C.; sold together with copied research.
