New Zealand 1845-66, undated reverse (2245. Sergt Hy Porter, 40th Regt.), light contact marks, very fine

Henry Porter was born near Chelmsford in July 1828 and enlisted on 29 November 1845, he served in Australia for 7 years and 8 months. During which period the 40th Regiment was stationed in Australia they saw action during the Eureka Stockade rebellion, along with the 12th Regiment. Porter was afterwards posted to New Zealand for 5 years and 9 months. Porter settled in Auckland after his discharge and is noted as living on 4 May 1866; sold together with copied research.
