Crimea 1854-56, 1 clasp, Sebastopol (W. Dean. 10th Hussars.), officially impressed naming, heavy edge bruising with edge knocks, otherwise very fine
William Dean was born in Liverpool circa 1824 and worked as a tailor prior to enlisting there with the 1st Dragoon Guards on 17 February 1842 when he was 18 years old. On 1 April 1846, Dean transferred to the 10th Hussars with whom he served under number 915. He was stationed in Kirkee, India for nearly nine years and later in Crimea and Turkey for just over one year. While posted to the Crimea, Dean was present with the 10th Hussars at the Siege of Sebastopol.
Dean was discharged at Birmingham on 3 October 1856 at his own request after having served over 14 years with the Colours, his conduct cited as being 'very good'. He intended to return to Liverpool following his discharge and was admitted to the Royal Hospital Chelsea on 21 June 1876; sold together with copied research, including service record and medal roll.
