Harold John Perrett was born at Bath in 1900 and served with the Merchant Navy during the Great War, earning his Master's Certificate at London in April 1925. He was eventually commissioned in the Royal Naval Reserve and rose to be a Lieutenant-Commander during the Second World War, adding a R.N.R. Decoration (London Gazette 21 April 1942, refers) to his laurels.
