Victor James Walter Taylor was born at Willesden, Middlesex in 1896 and attested at Maidstone on 5 November 1915. Entering the war in France in August 1916 he was immediately thrown into action at the Battle of the Somme. The Battalion took part in an attack at the Schwaben Redoubt on 29 September 1916, seizing a number of key positions.

They faced severe counter attacks but held out until 5 October, on that same day Taylor was listed as missing, later assumed killed in action. The Battalion lost 280 men during the ferocious action and only one officer survived, albeit thrice wounded. He is commemorated upon the Thiepval Memorial; sold together with copied research.
