William Robinson was born at Lincoln on 29 May 1891 and entered the Royal Navy as Engine Room Artificer Class IV on 16 March 1915. Posted first to the Battleship Indefatigable on 27 May 1915 he served briefly with her before going ashore in June and transferring to Faulknor on 10 February 1916. This destroyer was soon afterwards posted to the 12th Destroyer Flotilla as the lead ship, a role she was still serving in during the Battle of Jutland.
Steaming out with Beatty's Grand Fleet the flotilla took part in the destroyer actions between the main battle lines around 19:00. They came upon the remains of the duel between V48 and Shark, finishing off the disabled German Torpedo Boat. During the night phase of the action Faulknor led a torpedo attack against a line of Battleships, narrowly missing Grosser Kurfürst, her squadron had more success however and Pommern was hit heavily, exploding and breaking in half.
Faulknor was transferred to the Dover Patrol in December 1916 and saw heavy fighting with them in the channel. Notably she was part of the British naval force during the Zeebrugge and First Ostend Raids in late 1917. During the Second Ostend Raid she was the flagship for Roger Keyes, again she played a supporting role during the Battle.
Robinson left her in 1918 with the rank of Engine Room Artificer Class III but kept serving, being appointed Chief Engine Room Artificer Class II on 20 February 1929. Further advanced Chief Engine Room Artificer Class I on 20 February 1934 he was pensioned on 15 March 1937.
Returning to the colours he was posted to Caledon on 31 July 1939, she was part of the Home Fleet at the time and spent much of the first year of the war on convoy escort duties. She was ordered to the Eastern Fleet in 1940 but went ashore on 16 May 1941. Robinson remained there until 8 August 1945 when he was finally demobilised; sold together with copied research comprising service papers.
