1914-15 Star (S-3701. Pte. W. F. Crichton. R. Highrs.); British War and Victory Medals (S-3701 Pte. W. F. Crichton. R. Highrs.); Great War Bronze Memorial Plaque (William Fraser Crichton), in its card envelope, good very fine (4)

William Fraser Crichton was born in Perthshire in 1894 and joined the Black Watch in September 1912. He served in France from 10 May 1915 with the 8th Battalion and was mortally wounded in action, being admitted to hospital with gunshot wounds to the chest on 29 September 1915. In the previous days the unit were in the thick of the action during the Battle of Loos, losing a total of 18 Officers and 492 other ranks. It is worth noting that one of the unit casualties was Captain The Hon. Fergus Bowes-Lyon, elder brother of Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon (Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother) and thus an uncle of Queen Elizabeth II. Crichton died on 7 October 1915 and is buried in Longuenesse (St. Omer) Souvenir Cemetery.
