James Thomson enlisted on 13 September 1914 and entered the war in the Balkans on 25 April 1915,. Discharged due to ill health on 23 October 1916 his star was initially returned as incorrectly engraved and re-issued on 15 August 1921; sold together with copied M.I.C. and silver war badge roll.
