(x) U.S.A.: Bath Hotel Company, one share of $10, 18[53], #8, small banknote format with vignette of huge gothic style building. A fairly obvious attempt to get round both currency and company laws of New York. The company, according to contemporary newspaper reports, acquired an existing property at Bath Beach, New Utrecht, Brooklyn in the hope of building this large and most improbable hotel. The last mention of the company was an 1854 notice of a meeting of shareholders. Whether any building was done is in question but looking at the Fort Lowry Hotel of the 1890's in the same location there appear to be elements of the structure within the building. GVF.
