Leonard Goulding was born at Coventry on 2 November 1899 and joined the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve on 15 October 1917. Posted to H.M.S. Onslaught he served with her on anti-submarine duties before transferring to the Royal Air Force on 31 March 1918.

Frank Davies served with H.M.S. Roxburgh from March 1918.
