Frederick Coveney was born at Thornton, Leicestershire and originally served with the 3rd Battalion Oxfordshire Light Infantry. He enlisted into the Royal Horse Artillery on 17 November 1887 at Woolwich, serving in 'N' Battery from 1 July 1889 on re-organisation. He was promoted to the rank of Bombardier on 22 February 1892 and to Corporal on 19 July 1897. Coveney joined 'B' Battery on 1 October 1898 and was promoted to Sergeant on 13 January 1900. Alas he was reduced to Corporal on 17 November 1900 and reduced again to Bombardier on 20 February 1901. He served in 'P' Battery on 26 November 1902 and then to 'O' Battery on 9 December 1902. He married Sabuia Howlett on 26 December 1894 at Meerut. Coveney died at Lucknow as a result of contracting Hepatitis on 20 April 1903.
