(x) India General Service 1895-1908, 2 clasps, Punjab Frontier 1897-98, Tirah 1897-98 (3939 Pte W. Smith 1st Bn Devon Regt) light contact marks, otherwise very fine

William Smith was born at Camelford, Cornwall. He was a Labourer prior to enlisting into the Devonshire Regiment on 8 June 1894. He served in India from 12 October 1895 - 7 December 1899 and then went on to South Africa serving there until 11 October 1902 before returning home where he spent the remainder of his service. Smith was discharged on 7 June 1910.

He is additionally entitled to a Queen's South Africa 1899-1902 medal with clasps, Relief of Ladysmith, Belfast, Tugela Heights, together with a King's South Africa Medal with the two clasps. These medals were sold through these rooms on 24 November 2022, lot 226.
