Egypt and Sudan 1882-89, undated reverse, no clasp (J. Bahre, Stoker. H.M.S. Sphinx.), pitting, edge bruising, contact marks, nearly very fine

Joseph Bahre was born at Malta in 1859 he briefly served with H.M.S. Arab from 17 June 1879-30 June with the service number 123636. Notably his previous employment is listed as 'Merchant Service Fireman' suggesting previous service afloat. Returning to service with the Royal Navy on 6 June 1883 as Stoker class II.

Seeing service in Egypt with the Special Service steamer H.M.S. Sphinx twice, first between 1 November 1883-7 January 1884 and again between 8 February 1884-9 March 1887. Later that year while with Polyphemus he was invalided to Malta and redesignated as Domestic Class III. He was to serve in the role of domestic for the rest of his career, being discharged on 8 May 1894; sold together with a copied service record.
