Charles Henry Robinson was born at Chorlton-on-Medlock on 21 October 1883 and enlisted with the Royal Navy on 29 May 1900 as Boy Class II. Reaching his majority with the training ship Caledonia Robinson joined the cruiser Amphitrite on 6 November 1901. Being advanced Able Seaman with her on 16 September 1904 he was to serve further with Actaeon,Blenham and ashore at Pembroke.
Going ashore by Purchase on 19 June 1908 Robinson joined the Royal Fleet Reserve the next day and was still a member of the outbreak of the Great War. Mobilised for service with the Battleship Prince George on 13 July 1914 he later joined Defiance. Robinson was to stay with her only a month before removing to Rinaldo on 22 October 1914. Joining Minion on 20 January 1916 he was with her during the failed attempt to sink U-48 on 17 March off the Straights of Dover.
Robinson was posted to the destroyer tender Blake on 12 May 1916 just prior to the Battle of Jutland. This vessel was part of the 11th Destroyer Flotilla and took part in the Battle with this unit although as an auxiliary vessel did not directly engage. Robinson remained with Blake for the duration of the war being demobilised on 21 February 1919. He was briefly remobilised between 8 April 1921-6 June 1921 as part of the Defence Force intended to combat the industrial crisis underway at the time; sold together with copied service records and a birth index transcription.
