The Pilot's Log Book of Wing Commander J. H. White, Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, D.F.C., who was later killed in action on 18 November 1943 over Berlin

Pilot's Flying Log Book, named 'J.H. White', dated between 2 March 1935 - 9 July 1939, very fine

[D.F.C.] London Gazette 10 September 1943, the original citation states

'This officer has flown on many operational sorties against targets in Germany, Italy and enemy occupied territory. He has held the post of flight commander in his squadron since May 1943. In that capacity and as captain of aircraft, Squadron Leader White has shown powers of flying skill and leadership which have set an outstanding example to the other members of his squadron.'

John Henry White was commissioned Pilot Officer on 2 March 1936 and posted to No 3 Flying Training School, Grantham only a few days later. Completing his training he joined No. 151 Squadron at North Weld on 20 December, a post he served in for several years. Posted to No 7. Flying Training School, Peterborough on 1 June 1938 he was promoted Flying Officer on 6 September 1938 and further advanced Flight Lieutenant on 3 September 1940.

Flying with 156 Squadron he was promoted Squadron Leader on 1 December 1941 and continued to serve until 18 November 1943 when he was killed in action over Berlin. At the time 156 Squadron was a part of the Path Finder Force. White is buried in the Berlin 1939-45 War Cemetery; sold together with copied research including a typed career summery, London Gazette entries, recommendation for award and Commonwealth War Graves certificate.
