Philip Wilson was born at Poringland, Norfolk in 1864, working as a Blacksmith prior to enlisting he also served with the Militia notably the 2nd Brigade Eastern Division, Royal Artillery (Militia). Attesting on 8 January 1886 he saw service in India from 10 October 1886, notably passing to work as a Shoeing Smith out there on 6 January 1888. Wilson returned to Britain on 16 October 1891 and was sent to the Army Reserve on 29 January 1898.
Embodied for service again on 8 January 1900 with the Royal Field Artillery as a Gunner he was posted to South Africa on 21 January 1900. Seeing service out there with a Battery between September and November of that year before it was divided amongst the British Columns. Wilson returned to Britain on 16 April 1902 and was disembodied the next month on 16 May; sold together with copied research including service papers, census data and medal rolls.
