British War Medal 1914-20 (F.38306 A. J. Gillman. A.M.2. R.N.A.S.), good very fine

Albert John Gillman was born at Islington, London on 5 September 1899 and enlisted with the Royal Naval Air Service on 20 September 1917 as Aircraftman Class II. Initially trained at R.N.A.S. Crystal Palace he was then posted to R.N.A.S. Yarmouth on 10 October and served there for the bulk of the war. Finally sent to R.N.A.S. Daedalus at Lee-On-Solent on 26 March 1918 he joined the newly formed Royal Air Force at the end of the month.
