Queen's Mediterranean Medal 1899-1902 (4721 Pte. J. Carney. L. N. Lanc: Regt.), nearly extremely fine

One of only 202 such medals awarded to this Regiment.

Joesph Carney was born in 1879 and lived in Carmarthen, South Wales. Later serving with the 3rd Battalion, Loyal North Lancashire Regiment in the Mediterranean during the Second Anglo-Boer War. During the Great War Carney joined the Royal Defence Corps on 22 January 1915, though his medal index card notes no entitlement to any medals. Invalided on 20 November 1917 he did however receive a Silver War Badge numbered 475179.
