John Kendrick Collier was born at Stoke Gabriel, Paignton, Devon on 7 December 1900. During the Great War he served as a Trimmer in the Merchant Marine and thence joined the Royal Navy on 23 May 1919. Having been awarded his L.S. & G.C. on 23 September 1934, he served off the coast of Palestine (N.G.S. & clasp) and was aboard Imperial from 8 September 1937-1 June 1940. He was latterly aboard Wallflower from 2 March 1941 and was released from service on 6 October 1945.
Samuel George Hobbs was born at Cardiff on 12 April 1900 and joined the Royal Navy in September 1915, serving as a Boy 2nd Class during the Great War. He earned his L.S. & G.C. on 26 June 1932 and was invalided from the service with epilepsy on 20 December 1939.
Archibald Whittle was born at Liverpool on 13 January 1903 and joined the Royal Navy on 5 March 1921. Having earned his L.S. & G.C. on 21 June 1936, he served aboard the Aurora from 29 July 1939-19 June 1942. In this time she would be involved in the hunts for the Scharnhorst and Gneisenau and latterly the Bismarck. She was also part of Force K which intercepted and sunk a number of enemy vessels and participated in the First Battle of Sirte on 17 December 1941. On 19 December while steaming off Tripoli she was heavily damaged in a minefield and was forced to retire to Malta
