Pair: Corporal G. R. Butt, Royal Air Force, late Royal Flying Corps, who served in France with No. 19 Squadron during the Great War and later served as an A.R.P. Warden

George Robert Butt was born at Lambeth, Surrey on 14 October 1896, the son of Harry and Ada Butt of 18 Crown Hill, Lambeth. Enlisting with the Royal Flying Corps on 3 December 1915 he served with No. 19 Squadron as a Aircraftman Class II. This unit was posted in France between July 1916 and April 1917 during which time they were engaged on the Somme.

Butt was promoted Aircraftman Class I on 1 January 1917 and further advanced Corporal on 1 October of that year. Transferring to the Royal Air Force on 1 April 1918 he continued to serve until transferred to the R.A.F. Reserve on 9 March 1919. Butt was living in Cornwall during the Second World War and served with the A.R.P. during this time, he died of bronchopneumonia at Plymouth, Devon on 10 June 1982; sold together with an archive of original and copied researching comprising:

A Passport.

Extracts relating to No. 19 Squadron.
