George Henry Gilson attested as a Driver with the Royal Field Artillery on 1 April 1915 and joined 2nd London Brigade on 28 February 1916. Posted to Salonica on 2 December 1916 with 302 Brigade he was promoted Bombardier while serving here on 12 February 1917 only to be demoted back to Gunner the next month on 5 March. Again promoted Bombardier on 24 May this time he was able to retain the rank. Posted to France on 11 May 1918 he served there for the rest of the war being promoted Corporal on 20 January 1919 and returning to Britain on 1 April. He was demobilised on 28 April; sold together with copied medal roll, M.I.C. and service records.
