Frederick George Turner was born at Canterbury, Kent, England on 29 September 1880, the son of Lydia Flinn (néeTurner) of 5 Aldermead Road, Beckenham. Entering the war in France on 10 August 1916 he served here for several months before being sent to a training school to act as Cook on 30 December 1916. Re-joining his Battalion on 24 March 1917 Turner remained with the unit for the rest of the war. Granted permission to marry while still on the continent on 7 May 1919 which he duly did in England. Returning to Canada Turner soon had a child whom he named Alan Frederick Turner.
