Thomas William Sutton was born in 1898, worked at Tilbury Docks and was a native of Arthur Street, Grays. He enlisted in the Essex Cyclists Battalion in October 1916 and served in France with the 1st Battalion, Hertfordshire Regiment from February 1918. He died of wounds on 16 April 1918, little more than five weeks after having arrived in France and is buried in the Haringhe Military Cemetery.
