Horace Groves was born at Nottingham in 1898 the son of Tom and Eliza Groves of 30 Wilton Terrace, Old Basford, Nottingham. Joining 10th Battalion in France he was part of an attack launched from Gaie Farm near Poix-du-Nord on 4 November 1918 which succeeded in taking its objectives and capturing two German Field Guns in the process. Groves was one of the 4 officers and 98 other ranks killed in the action possibly by a heavy German artillery barrage referenced in the Battalion war diary. He is buried at Caudry British Cemetery; sold together with copied research including Commonwealth War Graves details, memorial scroll and M.I.C. as well as the Battalion war diary entry relating to the attack of 4 November 1918.
