Pair: 2nd Class Air Mechanic (Wireless Operator) J. McKillop, Royal Flying Corps, who was severely wounded by a gunshot wound to the chest

James McKillip, who was born on 8 April 1898, served initially with the Royal Engineers and thence transferred to the Royal Flying Corps as a Wireless Operator in February 1917. He served in France from 8 April 1917 and was wounded in action on 19 August 1917 (War Office list 55442, refers) and suffered a gunshot wound to the chest. The wound was subsequently infected and McKillop was placed on the 'dangerously ill' list whilst still in France. Downgraded to 'seriously ill', he left France on 20 October 1917 to recover in England. He was discharged with a Silver War Badge; sold together with his silver identity bracelet, this engraved '65054 J. McKillop Wireless Operator. R.F.C.'.
