George Payne was born in 1891, the son of William and Eliza Payne of 26 Albert Street, Wednesbury, Staffordshire. Enlisting with 8th Battalion, Royal Fusiliers Payne entered the war in France on 14 November 1915. He was killed in action during the attack on Ovillers on 7 July 1916 and is commemorated upon the Thiepval Memorial; sold together with Commonwealth War Graves details.
