Provenance
Baldwin FPL, Winter 2013-2014, BH001 [and Cover] - a pleasing example, almost very fine and extremely rare, only 14 known and recorded by Potter; only 5 with this lettering variety - £10,000
Thomas H. Law, Stack's Bowers ANA, 13 August 2013, lot 20001 - $6,500
SCMB, April 1985, EG33* - a really good fine / nearly VF, very rare, 117 grains, therefore clipped to fourth coinage weight - £1,200

Potter, NC 1963, subdivides the Edward III third period nobles into types I and II. Type II has larger lettering and the design is engraved in a less detailed, more florid, style. It is easily identified by the bowsprit which passes through, rather than behind, the forecastle. There is no example in the Schneider collection
