Great Britain: Brighton New West Pier Company, £10 shares, 189[3], #554, scrollwork left, black, cancelled. The West Pier, the second in Brighton, was opened in 1866 and enlarged by this new company with an extension and pavillion. Despite its popularity in the early 20th century the company was in financial difficulty in the 1960's and was subsequently sold to another local hotel and entertainment company. The pier was listed in 1969 and some compulsory repair notices were made but the new company did not have the finances to proceed. The company was liquidated and the pier closed in 1975, passing into the control of the Crown Estate. VF.
