Great Britain: Stowmarket Explosives Company Limited, £10 shares, 188[1]., #48, scrollwork at left, black. A gun-cotton manufacturer that obtained rights to manufacture dynamite and nitro-glycerine on the expiration of the Nobel patent. Their works were sold to the newly formed Explosives Company Limited to raise the extra capital required. Extra works were acquired in Pembrey, Carmarthenshire where 7 children were killed in an explosion in 1882. It seems that the transfer of the business failed and the Stowmarket Company was still selling cordite to the government in 1899. AEF.
