William Charles Ford was born at Poplar, London on 17 March 1899. By the end of the First World War he was aboard HMS Delhi with the rating of Able Seaman. Promoted Leading Seaman on 21 October 1933 while serving with the Shore Establishment HMS Defiance. He was released from service on 27 October 1945.
