Sidney James Abraham was born at Romsey, Hampshire on 2 June 1883. Enlisting on 11 June 1900 his first posting was to the training ship Northampton with the rank of Boy Class II. Promoted Boy Class I later that year on 10 September. While aboard the Pelorus-class cruiser Pyramus he was advanced Seaman on 2 June 1901. Having served stints at Hibernia and Cruizer it was again aboard Pyramus that he was promoted Able Seaman on 22 January 1903. Throughout the Great War Abraham served aboard Iron Duke from 10 March 1914-31 December 1917, during which time she served as Admiral Jellicoe's flagship at the Battle of Jutland, 31 May 1916. Abraham was discharged on 20 January 1921.
